The symposium Information Wars: Journalism, Digital Media and the Narrative on Palestine will be held on Friday 07 February in the All Hallows campus of Dublin City University. All Hallows is on the Grace Park Rd, Drumcondra and the symposium will be in the John Hand room (SG05).
Speakers:
- 10am Dr Mike Berry (Cardiff University) is co-author of Bad News From Israel and More Bad News From Israel. This pioneering work emerged from the Glasgow Media Group to examine how bias in news coverage leaves audiences confused about the nature of the conflict and the motives of actors.
- 11am Dr Wesam Amer (originally Gaza University, now visiting at Cambridge University) is researching the online strategies of Hamas and how platforms censor Palestinians.
- 1pm Arwa Mahdawi (The Guardian) and Dr Michael Foley (National Union of Journalists, TUDublin) will discuss the role of journalism and media in covering and concealing genocide and the implications of Israeli attacks on journalists.
- 2pm World-Cafe: this final session will invite attendees to think of practical things they can do as researchers and journalists to support Palestinian colleagues and/or include Palestine in our teaching/research/media practice.
People are welcome to join any session—no registration required. Media researchers, teachers and professionals especially welcome.
Tea/coffee & lunch can be bought on campus.
