A group of legal academics from across Ireland, including members of AfP, have called on the Governor of the Central Bank to immediately prohibit the marketing and sale of Israeli state bonds in or from Ireland, and to refuse to re-approve the bond prospectus on the renewal date of 2 September.
In a letter sent on 28 August 2025, the academics argue that the Central Bank Governor has ample powers under existing EU law to refuse to authorise the Israel Bonds programme. They also insist that engagement in the Israel Bonds programme is fundamentally incompatible with Ireland’s obligations under international law, which bind the Central Bank as an organ of the state.
